Winnie W. Henderson, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S.
Experienced and committed, Dr. Henderson believes in a personalized approach to the treatment of surgical problems. She offers recommendations, guidance and support to help patients make decisions about their surgical care.
Born in Hong Kong, China, she has spent most of her life in California, Nevada and Oregon. She is fluent in English and Cantonese and has a special interest in general, breast, gastrointestinal and oncological surgical issues.
She graduated summa cum laude from California State University in Fresno, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry. Following her undergraduate studies, she spent seven years in scientific research. At University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, she earned a Master of Science in biochemistry.
At Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine in Portland, she obtained a Ph.D. in molecular microbiology and immunology and completed her medical and general surgical training. Her graduate studies at OHSU resulted in the development of a patented cellular system to study lymphoma.
In Grants Pass, Oregon, she finished a one-year rural surgery fellowship and gained broad surgical experience in general, orthopedic, trauma and obstetrics/gynecologic surgery.

Certified by The American Board of Surgery, Dr. Henderson participates in three national surgical quality registries, including Mastery of Breast Surgery Program, Americas Hernia Society Quality Collaborative and American College of Surgeons, Surgeon Specific Registry.

Dr. Henderson’s commitment to her profession is reflected in her professional involvement in numerous boards, committees and teaching.
Presently, she is board member and breast disease team leader for Oregon Cancer Alliance and is an affiliate associate professor of the Department of Surgery, Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery for OHSU School of Medicine.
She has also served as past medical director for quality improvement for Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Surgery Institute; board member of the Northwest Specialty Clinics Physician IT Leadership Board and physician leader for NWSS IT, coding and workflow committees; member for PacificSource Health Plan Clinical Quality Utilization Committee; and member of the Sacred Heart Medical Center Surgical Site Infection Team.

Dr. Henderson has been published in several scientific journals and has presented at scientific symposiums and medical meetings, as well as the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Henderson and her husband, Bill, have two children, Andrew and Michael. She enjoys golfing, hiking, traveling and spending quality time with her family.
Recipient of numerous awards, including the PeaceHealth Medical Center Guardian Angel Award, Dr. Henderson gives back whenever she can.
She is currently a board member and breast disease team leader for the Oregon Cancer Alliance. She was the physician speaker at the opening ceremony for the American Cancer Society’s 2016 Relay For Life event; and she has served as PeaceHealth’s spokesperson for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation’s Race for the Cure.
Her philanthropy also extends oversees as a volunteer for Cascade Medical Team and its Guatemala Medical and Surgical Missions.
Other organizations she supports include: Oregon Cancer Foundation, Positive Community Kitchen, Children’s Tumor Foundation, Bridgeway House, WellMama Maternal Mental Health and Support Services, as well as O’Hara and Marist schools and others.
